Adding Central Air Conditioning to an existing forced warm air system is an improvement that most people don't realize is very inexpensive. Many homeowners decide to upgrade their furnace to a new and more efficient furnace and at the same time add central air conditioning.
When central air is being added to homes that don't have forced warm air, ductwork must be added to the home. The attic area is the most commonly used area to locate the ducts and air handler, providing there is enough space available. When attic space isn't available, or in multi-level or extra spacious homes, the systems can also be added to the basement area. Heating systems can also be located in the attic as well as the basement.

Hot Water heating can be combined with central air conditioning in specific applications to form what is called a hydro-air system. This system enables very larges homes or multi-zoned areas to still have flexibility for future expansion, along with having ductwork that supplies cooling, heating & air filtration from a hot water heating source.

Special applications such as rooms without attics or basements can have what is called a wall mount split system which has a separate condensing unit located outside keeping the inside of the room comfortable, cool and very quiet.
